Integrated Ph.D
Integrated Ph.D programme aims to offer advanced training in all basic science streams. The programme includes a small research project as part of the curriculum.
APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE INTEGRATED PH.D PROGRAMME FOR THE ACADEMIC SESSION 2011-12
Who can Apply
Students with a B. Sc/B.E/B.Tech/M.B.B.S degree from any recognized university/institute/ college can apply for the Integrated PhD programme in Biological, Chemical, Earth, Mathematical and Physical Sciences. Candidates need to secure a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grades in their qualifying examinations. Those who are appearing in the final examination of their degree course can also apply; for them, the eligibility marks are 60% in aggregate, based on the marks obtained in the undergraduate examinations held so far.
Students applying for an Integrated Ph.D. Programme are required to have the following subject(s) in the undergraduate courses:

How to Apply
Applications should be made in the prescribed application form [ doc, pdf ]. The duly filled in application (save as Name.Subject.doc, for example: MrinalSingh.Physics.doc) should be sent by e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. The last date for applications to be received is May 15, 2011. List of selected candidates for written test (based on syllabus up to B. Sc standard) will be published in the IISER-Kolkata website tentatively in the first week of June, 2011. Written test and interview of selected candidates (based on written test) will be conducted tentatively on 28th and 29th June, 2011. Names of candidates selected for Integrated PhD programme for the year 2011 will be published in IISER-Kolkata website tentatively on 7th July, 2011.
Essential Items Accompanying the hard copy of Application at the time of test/interview.
Apart from attested copies of all marks-sheets (secondary examination onward), the following documents must accompany the application at the time of test/interview:
(i) confidential letters of assessment of the applicant in the prescribed form [ doc, pdf ], from two teachers who have taught courses and would be able to evaluate the student as a potential research worker. The teachers should seal the envelopes and sign across the flaps, (ii) A hard copy of the application, (iii) Photo identity and (iv) Proof of age.
Mode of Selection
Institute-level committee(s) will scrutinize all the applications, and prepare a shortlist of about 100 candidates, who may be called for written test/interview. The Institute will finally declare the list of selected candidates on the Institute website.
Student Intake
In the Academic Session 2011-12 a total of 40 students may be selected, covering all sciences.
A tentative distribution is: Physics (9), Chemistry (9), Biology (9), Earth Sciences (9) and Mathematics (4).
Students will be given a monthly fellowship.
