  Research Interest

The primary objective of the group is to develop simple strategies for various carbohydrate transformations and synthesizing biologically active oligosaccharides of plant and bacterial origins. Design and synthesis of sugar-heterocycle hybrid molecules towards development of novel anti-tubercular agent is the major thrust area of the group in recent time.

The group is equally engaged in developing carbohydrate based anti-cancer agents through rational designing. Presently the Department of science and Technology, New Delhi, India (FastTrack grant for young scientists) is funding the work in this area. In parallel to the activities in the area of synthetic carbohydrate chemistry, the group is developing simple technique for making carbohydrate-modified nanoparticles (AuNPs and glyco-quantum dots) for the detection of bacteria in biological samples utilizing the carbohydrate-lectin interactions.
