Research Interest:

Dr. Amirul Mallick’s research interest is primarily focused on “Understanding the mechanism of molecular components involved in host-pathogen interaction” as an important step in developing safe and effective control measures against emerging pathogens. Currently, his research involves developing a safe and efficacious mucosal vaccine strategy against avian influenza virus (AIV). In India, currently there is no approved vaccine available against AIV which has tremendous economic and social impacts. Although a few vaccines available at different parts of the world, unfortunately, majority of those vaccines against AIV suffer from poor immunogenicity, insufficient sero-conversion rate, lack of cross-protection and inability to induce balanced cell-mediated immune responses. The major objective of his research is developing a vaccine candidate against AIV that would 1.Offer a balanced type immune response 2.Reduce the virus shedding to prevent the risk of inter- or intra-species virus transmission 3.Able to protect infection from divergent AIV subtypes.
