APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE PH.D PROGRAMME
FOR THE
ACADEMIC SESSION 2009-10 |
|
|
|
Eligibility:
|
|
The
qualification for the programme is Masters degree in the subject
applied
for from any recognized University/Institute or its equivalent.
Final
year Masters students who are yet to obtain their degree may also
appear
in the admission procedure. At the time of admission only
candidates
with an M.Sc degree with at least 55% marks in the subject
concerned
will be considered. However, for candidates awaiting their
results,
provisional admission with special permission of the Director may
be
allowed. Only candidates who
have qualified for JRF/LS in the UGC/CSIR NET
are eligible to apply.
Other national level eligibility tests offering
fellowships
like DBT, ICMR, and ICAR etc may also be considered. |

When to apply:
|
|
Normally
the tests/interviews for admission will be in April and December
every
year after the publication of CSIR/UGC NET results. The complete application (both HARD and
SOFT copies) for the Ph.D programme must reach IISER-Kolkata latest by
31.10.2009.

|

Items to be enclosed with the
application:
|
|
Attested
copies of mark sheets and certificates of all
examinations
starting
from high school leaving, two letters of recommendation (in
sealed envelopes) and a
statement of purpose (not exceeding
300 words). |
|
Selection procedure:
|
|
The
candidates will be called for test/interview. The selected
candidates
will
receive the offer letter containing also the last date for joining
shortly
after the interview. |
|
Fellowship:
|
|
Fellowship
for UGC/CSIR-NET qualified candidates will be as per rules. The candidates
qualified for LS will draw fellowships from IISER-Kolkata. The amount
will be announced in this web site. Fellowships will be paid from the
date of joining. |
|
Subjects offered
(subject to revision
from time to time):
|
|
Physics,
Chemistry, Life Science, Earth Science and Mathematics/Statistics.
There is ample scope for interdisciplinary
research.
|
|
Course Work:
|
|
The
JRFs will have to do course work during the first six months. The course
content will be decided by the department concerned for each student
according to his / her need. Ph. D. Supervisor will be selected only after
the course work. For the candidates drawing fellowships from CSIR or any
other external funding agency the Chairman of the department or any other
Faculty Member nominated by the Ph. D. Committee will act as the temporary
supervisor, if necessary. |

Accommodation:
|
|
Cannot
be guaranteed at present.
