CH4101: Organometallic Chemistry and Catalysis

Historical Background and Introductory Concepts: Definition, the first few organometallic complexes, thermodynamics and kinetics of organometallic compounds,
the 18-electron rule.

Different types organometallic bonding:

Metal- alkyls, aryls, hydrides, organometallic bonding with multiple bonds, complexes of ?-bound ligands such as carbonyls, phosphine complexes, MO theory of organometallic complexes, isolobal analogy

General methods for synthesis of organometallic compounds

Main-Group Organometallic Compounds and application in organic synthesis: Overview of preparation methods, organometallic compounds of alkali metals, organometallic compounds of alkaline earth metals, organometallic compounds of the boron group, organometallic compounds of zinc.

Transition metal Organometallic Chemistry:

Major reaction pathways of transition metal organometallic compounds:
Oxidative addition, reductive elimination, insertion, elimination reaction, nucleophilic and electrophilic addition and abstraction.

Homogeneous Catalysis and Application in Organic Synthesis: Hydrogenation, hydroformylation, hydrosilylation, hydroboration, alkene metathesis, alkene isomerization, hydroamination, coupling reactions, polymerization, CO2 activation, C-H activation, C-C activation, click catalysis, oxidation reaction.
