This course is offered through Virtual Classroom over National Knowledge Network (NKN) from IISER Pune

Course Webpage: http://www.iiserpune.ac.in/~p.subramanian/FluidsSpring2013.html

The course will be organized into the following (approximate) parts:

1) The continuum hypothesis, kinematics, conservation laws: continuity equation, Euler and Navier-Stokes equations

2) Dimensionless numbers, dynamic similarity, aerodynamics

3) Compressible flows, speed of sound, shocks

4) Fluid instabilities and turbulence

5) A quick introduction to computational fluid dynamics

6) Applications of fluid dynamics in Astrophysics: e.g., Astrophysical jets, the de Laval nozzle, spherical accretion onto compact objects, the solar wind

7) Applications of fluid dynamics in geophysics
