Syllabus


  • Introduction): Nomenclature: IUPAC, Non-IUPAC, structure-based, and trade names
    Exposure to important terminologies and definitions for example Molecular weight, size, glass transition temperature, crystallinity, etc.

  • Polymer Synthesis and characterization: Introduction to chemistry of polymerization- step, chain and miscellaneous polymerizations; Kinetics of polymerization; Various types of synthesis Anionic, Cationic, ATRP, ROMP, RAFT, Free radical polymerization; Polymer characterization; Chemical analysis of polymers; spectroscopic methods-IR, NMR, ESR; X-Ray Diffraction analysis; Microscopy; light Microscopy, Electron Microscopy and Electron Diffraction, Scanning electron microscopy; Thermal analysis; DSC, TGA; Physical testing; stress-strain properties in tension.

  • Applications of synthetic polymers: Importance; biological consideration, types of polymers- little emphasize on artificial heart, artificial skin, contact lenses, dental resins and essence of other important applications.

  • Physical aspects of polymers

  • Conducting polymers
