Syllabus


  • Rationale: This course continues to apply the theoretical concepts covered in the Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology course to classify and understand the mineralogical evolution of igneous and metamorphic rocks through the use of thin section study and mineral and whole rock geochemistry.

  • Identification and classification of igneous rocks (primary rocks) through mineralogy

  • Interpretation of textures and geochemistry
  • The use of mineral chemical, phase equilibria and geothermobarometry to interpret petrogenesis of metamorphic rocks


Prerequisite: Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology (ES3102)
