Crystal Structure: of Inorganic Solids: Metals, Semiconductors, Superconductors, Magnetic materials, Ferroelectric materials, Crystal Symmetry, Defects, Reciprocal Lattice. Electronic Properties of Solids: Free electrons, bound electrons to electrons in a solid, Band theory, Brillouin zone. Atomic Structure: Ionic, Metallic, Covalent and Van der Waals bonding. Reactivity of Solids: Solid state reactions, Diffusion processes in the solid state. Synthesis and Methods of Characterization: X-ray Diffraction, Electron Microscopy, Surface Area Analysis, Raman Spectroscopy. Carbon Nanomaterials: Fullerene, Carbon Nanotube, Graphene , Nanodiamond. Magnetic Properties of Materials: Domain walls, Superparamagnetism, Magnetocrystalline anisotropy, Ferromagnetism. Optical Properties and Luminescent Materials: F-block elements, Electronic, Magnetic and Optical properties, their Chemistry, Complexes and Nanocrystals. NanoComposite Materials: metal, semiconductor and insulator materials, their synthesis, characterization and applications. Photonic crystals. Aerogel and Xerogel materials: Preparations and applications.
