Preamble |
---|
This is an intermediate course in physics. It will provide students with an introduction to basics of network analysis, electrical circuits and electronics. Although this is a theory course, it will be linked closely to some of the experiments to be carried out in PH2103 and PH2203. |
Syllabus |
---|
Kirchoffs law applied to AC circuits, RC, RL, RLC circuits - transients and steady state behaviour.
Semiconductors, intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors. The pn diode, zener diode, Static and dynamic characteristics of a diode, Half wave, full wave and bridge rectifiers, Capacitor filter, Other simple applications of diodes voltage clipper, clamper, doubler etc. AND and OR gates using diodes, Introduction to the Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT) and Field Effect Transistor (FET). The OP-AMP as a circuit element. Linear and nonlinear OP-AMP circuits. The Wien bridge and phase shift oscillators. |
