Kinetic Theory of Gases: The kinetic theory, Derivation of the gas laws, Maxwells distribution of molecular velocity and speed in one, two, and three dimensions, Calculation of average, root mean square and most probable speed, Collisions in a gas, Collision diameter, Collision number, Mean free path, Frequency of binary collision, Viscosity of gas, Energy distribution function, Average energy and most probable energy, Principle of equipartition of energy, Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution, Specific heat of gases.

Real Gases: Deviations from ideal behaviour, Equations of state for real gases, Compressibility factor, Andrew's and Amagot's plots, van der Waals and Virial equation, Reduced equation of state and law of corresponding states, Critical state, Critical pressure, Critical volume, Critical temperature, Boyle temperature, Continuity of states, Intermolecular forces.

Thermodynamics - II
