Preamble
Introduction: This course is intended to provide an introduction to Sedimentary geology for students who are majoring in Earth Sciences. This course introduces concepts of sedimentary process and products. In the first part processes (weathering, transportation & deposition), products (Siliciclastic and carbonate rocks), sedimentary environments (continental, marginal and deep marine) are discussed.

Syllabus
Weathering, Transportation & deposition, Sediment gravity flow, Siliciclastic sediments: Classification, property, deposition. Carbonate sediments: Classification, property, deposition. Other Chemical sedimentary rocks. Sedimentary structure. Depositional environment- Glacial, Fluvial, Lacustrine, Aeolian, Marginal and Deep marine. Principles of Stratigraphy: Lithostratigraphy, Biostratigraphy, Isotope Stratigraphy, Sequence Stratigraphy, Basin Analysis, Tectonics & Sedimentation.

Prerequisite
ES3101 Advanced Structural Geology
ES3104 Mineralogy
