Syllabus


  • Safety protocol and quantitative methods in biology

  • Diversity in natural populations at Macro (Alpha diversity in birds) and Micro level (Antibiotic resistance in bacteria)

  • Basic Cell Biology: Microscopic observation of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells (bacteria, plant cells (onion peel), cheek epithelial cells); Plasmolysis and deplasmolysis of onion cells;; Staining of blood film and identification of blood cells

  • Microbiology: Isolation of single colony and Gram staining or Acid Fast staining; Antibiotic sensitivity assay

  • Biochemistry: Spectrophotometric estimation of DNA with emphasis on the significance of 230 nm, 260 nm, 280 nm and 320 nm and; Bradfords assay for protein concentration.
