MA211 Autumn Semester 2010

In this course we plan to cover a lot of material
  1. Complex analysis
  2. Ordinary differential equations - power series solutions
  3. Linear algebra (inner product spaces, etc.)
  4. Some abstract algebra (groups, rings, fields, etc)

You can find course material from this course that I gave two years ago here. Be warned, though - the course is going to be very different in structure this time around!! Then we had covered only complex analysis and ODEs - so complex analysis was treated in a lot more detail than it will be this time around. You can get a rough idea of part of the topics from the notes, however.

It may also be a good idea to brush up on your linear algebra- at least whatever was covered last semester. The partial notes for that course are here. These notes do not cover the very important topic of diagonalization - refer to any standard text.

You do not have to submit these assignments (although submission is strongly encouraged!). Note that if you can do all the assigned problems, it means that you are in a position to solve at least 70 % of the midsem and /or endsem papers!
