| Details: | Quantum spin liquids (QSL) present prototypes of long range entangled phases of quantum matter that are obtained in magnetic insulators. The rich signature of many-body entanglement manifests in a host of fallouts such as emergent gauge theories, symmetry fractionalisation and statistical transmutation (in two dimensions). In this talk, I shall present an understanding of such novel phases with reference to recent excitements in the field in a class of rare-earth pyrochlore magnets dubbed quantum spin-ice. I shall emphasise the need for a new class of experiments required to understand the signatures of many-body entanglement as well as point out how newer QSLs can be stabilised in such systems. |
