| Details: | Edge modes in a fractional quantum Hall (FQH) state can be in the coherent or equilibrated regimes, where different degree of thermal equilibration can be reached while charge is fully equilibrated, giving rise to a zoo of intriguing models. Classification of different models based on a diagnostic in a single experimental device is an outstanding problem and we show that the electrical shot noise can serve the purpose in a quantum point contact (QPC) conductance plateau. We consider ν = 2/3 FQH state and show that different inequalities among the auto- and cross-correlation shot noise hold for different edge models. The ν = 2/3 filling provides the simplest example of a fractional quantum Hall state containing counter-propagating edge modes. Our results include an explanation of the recently observed e 2/2h QPC conductance plateau based on different models and a distinction among those via shot noise. Our scheme is realizable with the existing experimental amenities. |
