The study of morphology & dynamics of disk galaxies has drawn attention over
several decades. This helps us in understanding the formation and evolution of disk galaxies
across cosmic time. Several ongoing photometric & spectroscopic observations as well as
high resolution cosmological, hydrodynamical simulations have made it possible to explore
intriguing questions in this field. In this talk, I will try to discuss some of our explorations in
the area of galaxy morphology focusing on the massive disk galaxies with extended low
surface brightness stellar disk, present in the nearby universe. I will also briefly give an
overview of our work on the vertical structure of the stellar disk in the Milky Way, especially
in the light of Gaia observations. The upcoming observations from large surveys such as
LSST (Legacy Survey of Space & Time), Euclid , 4MOST etc would open up unique
opportunities to deal with several challenging questions in this field. |
