| Description: | [Institutes Special Lecture] Prof. Philip Maini (University of Oxford) -- The role of mathematical modelling in biology |
| Date: | Monday, Apr 13, 2015 |
| Time: | 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. |
| Venue: | G05, Lecture Hall Complex |
| Details: | This talk will consider a number of applications of mathematical modelling in the context of biology. It will review the classical Turing reaction-diffusion model for biological pattern formation, a cell-chemotaxis model for slime mold dynamics, and a hybrid model for vasculature tumour growth. For each example, the model will be shown to reveal new mathematical challenges and will be critiqued in the context of the biological application. |
