| Description: | [DPS Seminar (Student)] Sajal Mukherjee (IISER K) -- On some properties of extended objects in general relativity |
| Date: | Wednesday, Sep 26, 2018 |
| Time: | 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. |
| Venue: | G02, Lecture Hall Complex |
| Details: | Motion of extended objects are useful to understand the behavior of massive astrophysical bodies in the Universe. By relaxing the test particle approximation and considering the higher order mass moments, one can establish the dynamics of such particles in any gravitational field. However, the first order correction described by the Mathisson-Papapetrou equations, provide a substantial modification to the test particle limit and prepare the ground for effective one body approach. I shall introduce these equations along with their various implications in different astrophysical settings. |
