| Description: | [CESSI Colloquium] Saikat Chatterjee (KTH-Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden) -- Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence |
| Date: | Wednesday, Apr 24, 2019 |
| Time: | noon - 4 p.m. |
| Venue: | Asima Chatterjee Lecture Theatre |
| Details: | In this talk I shall discuss the ability and inability of deep neural networks in the general perspective of intelligence. What do we expect from an intelligent system? Can we take artificial intelligence to be real intelligence as we perceive it? How do we define it? For example, if an intelligent system learns with hard examples, how is the system expected to behave for simple problems? We shall discuss what a computer does in the context of autonomous cars from the perspective of a computer vision problem. Subsequently, I shall present some technical underpinning of neural networks and critically appraise the scope of machine-based intelligence. |
