ABOUT ME
BM was born in Howrah, WB on January 26, 1987. He obtained his B.Sc. (Honors) degree in Chemistry from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, University of Calcutta, in 2007, followed by an M.Sc. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) in 2009. He earned his Ph.D. in 2012 from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Germany, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Herbert Mayr.
In 2013, he moved to Japan as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Professor Dr. Hisashi Yamamoto at the Molecular Catalyst Research Center, Chubu University. He was subsequently awarded the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship in 2015, pursuing further postdoctoral studies in the group of Professor Dr. Frank Glorius at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, Germany.
BM joined the Department of Chemical Sciences at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata (IISER Kolkata) as an Assistant Professor in July 2016. He was promoted to Associate Professor in May 2021, and to Full Professor in December 2025.
His research focuses focuses on advancing modern organic synthesis and catalysis through innovative methodology development, asymmetric catalysis, and natural product synthesis. By leveraging sustainable technologies, including photochemistry, electrochemistry, and heterogeneous catalysis, the group develops efficient, atom-economical pathways to access structurally diverse, biologically active molecules. Â
