The core activities of RISE Foundation IISER are:

Create and foster an innovation ecosystem: We intend to act as a bridge to link academia and industry in a synergistic way so that the commercialization of ideas can be made easily. The main goal is to put in place a thorough process-flow that will enable and encourage researchers currently engaged only in academia to enter into entrepreneurship programmes with RISE Foundation IISER acting as a catalyst.

Create new links between academia and industry: We are committed in empowering the youth of the region, especially students, to make use of the centre and venture into startups. For this purpose, pre-incubation mentoring will be given to those interested in entrepreneurship, which in turn will help the centre to tap into the entrepreneurial potential of the region – thus creating its innovation ecosystem.

Support of new entrepreneurial ventures: Proposals will be invited from all corners of eastern and north-eastern India, thus leading to a diverse pool of interesting ideas that will serve to firmly establish RISE as a melting pot of various startup initiatives in this region. We are especially dedicated to leverage and commercialize the grassroot-level knowledge and indigenous technology and innovation that exists in our immediate surroundings – essentially semi-rural Bengal.

Provide “pre-incubation mentoring” to the students of the region: Students from IISER Kolkata and other institutes nearby will have an opportunity to be placed in the various startups under the umbrella of RISE. The experience thus gained would also be utilized officially by linking it to their BS/MS final year project requirements.

Partnership with legal and IP firms to facilitate smooth transition of results from the lab to the market: We intend to establish fruitful contractual partnerships with legal and IP firms so as to facilitate the smooth transition of results from labs to the market.
