  • Rationale: This course is designed to introduce the primary concepts of deformation in rocks at various scales of observations. The course is divided into two parts: Tectonics & Structural Geology

  • Plate Tectonics

  • Stress, Strain, Flexure

  • Heat transfer

  • Rock rheology

  • Introduction to deformation in rocks: Force, Traction, Stress at a point, Translation, Rigid body rotation, Strain in rocks

  • Scales of deformation: Global scale, Regional scale, Macroscopic scale, Mesocopic scale, Microscopic scale

  • Folds: Geometry, Orientation, Classification

  • Faults: Geometry, Orientation, Classification
