Introduction: This course will focus on the process of soil and water contamination as well as its remedy through bioremediation. Bioremediation deals with Phytoremediation and microbial remediation of contaminants in nature. Through this course students will get knowledge of water and soil quality monitoring, degradation of soil, conservation of water and soil resources and its remedy through plants and microbes.

Course Content:
Water pollution: sources, types, effects on aquatic systems. Degradation of aquatic ecosystem: eutrophication. Soil conservation and sustainable agriculture; Soil contamination due to application of pesticide and presence of heavy metals. Biomonitoring of Environmental Quality: Bioremediation: Concept, role of bioremediation in controlling various pollution problems: types of phytoremediation, mechanism involved with case studies. Practical (Laboratory/ Local Field) work related to soil and water quality monitoring. |
