Course CodeCourse NameInstructor(s)
ES3202 Geotechnical Engineering Sujata Ray

Preamble
This course focuses on the strength of soils and the stability of structures built on soils and rocks. It considers the stresses generated in soils both due to groundwater flow and external loading.

Syllabus
Engineering classification of soils, soil properties and weight-volume relationships, consistency of soil, Atterberg limits, relative density of soils; Stresses in soils (total stress, effective stress and pore water pressure), stresses in soils and their stability during upward and downward flow of groundwater, quick sand conditions
