Course CodeCourse NameInstructor(s)
ES3203 Climate and Cryosphere Argha Banerjee

Preamble
This course is an introduction to physical processes related to climate and cryosphere. The aim is to learn about the relevant phenomena by looking at real data, building simple models and analyzing the models quantitatively using basic analytical and numerical tools.

Syllabus
Simple climate models: energy balance, forcings, feedbacks; Climate variability: past climate and climate proxies, recent climate, prediction of future climate; Cryosphere: glaciers and ice sheets, mass balance and energy balance, flow of ice; Glacier climate interaction: glacier dynamics, climatic forcing, fluctuations of glacier, sea level rise; Himalayan glaciers.
