Syllabus
Petroleum Geology: Origin of petroleum from organic matter; conventional and unconventional resources; physical and chemical properties of petroleum; petroleum migration, traps, properties of source rocks; exploration techniques; geochemical techniques of evaluating source rocks, estimating oil and gas generation and cracking, organic biomarkers, maturity parameters, oil-oil and oil-source rock correlations, Rock Eval pyrolysis, SARA analysis; introduction to extraction techniques of oil and gas, fracking; environmental effects; distribution of oil and gas reserves in India, production; enhanced oil recovery. Ore Geology: Genetic classification of ore deposits; morphology of ore deposits; environments of ore deposit formation, enrichment factors and ore forming processes; metallogenetic epochs and provinces; metallic and non-metallic mineral deposits in India; classification of coal, coal deposits of India; environmental issues related to mining.
