PH4201 Advanced Experimental Physics Ayan Banerjee

The course is aimed towards providing students an initial exposure to cutting edge experimental as well as computational research in Physics by allowing them to work on short term projects in the research laboratories/groups in DPS. Each student (in groups of two or three, which would be decided by the number of students taking the course) would be assigned a particular research lab where he/she would work the entire semester on a project designed by the faculty member running the lab. Students can choose laboratories based on their interest and the faculty member's consent. The different options available to the students would be made clear at the start of the semester (first class of the course) at the latest - students are of course free to make arrangements with individual faculty members during the vacations prior to the commencement of the semester. Grading shall be done by the faculty member whose lab the student concerned has been assigned, and the students shall have to present their work to the concerned faculty member and other colleagues that he/she would wish to invite. The final grade would be based on the quality of the work, sincerity during work, presentation, and final report.
