| This is a course offered to the RS (PhD) students in their first year and BS-MS 5th year, 1st semester students. The student can perform an independent study under a DPS faculty. The course should be initiated for each individual student by a mutual consent between the student and the faculty.
For a BS-MS 5th year, 1st semester student the instructor for this course can not be his MS project supervisor. |

| Enrolment:
Final enrolment is only done by the Syllabus Coordinator. For final enrolment, the consents of Instructor and the Student, the name of the topic, and a short syllabus must reach (in a piece of paper or e-mail) the Syllabus Coordinator before the final deadline for course choices (middle of August or January). Note: NO STUDENT CAN BE ENROLLED AFTER THE FINAL DEADLINE. Modalities: 1. Independent Study (PH5110/5210) is for RS (PhD) students in their first year and BS-MS 5th year, 1st semester students. There is NO cap on either the number of Independent Study(s) an instructor can offer or the number of students who can take a particular Independent Study. 2. A 5th year BS-MS (1st sem) student/RS student can choose to take an 'Independent Study' only if the core and elective courses offered in their curriculum (all five years) do not cover the topics/subjects of that study. 3. A 5th year BS-MS (1st sem) student can take the reading course from a DPS faculty only other than his/her project supervisor. Project supervisors recommendation will be necessary in such case. No such restriction exists for an RS student. 4. Evaluation for an Independent Study should follow the rules for a regular course in that level. Regarding the final evaluation of the student a written document should be submitted to DoAA. (Final evaluation can be a regular or take home exam or a presentation in front of the course instructor and another faculty member. In that case case the hard copy of the presentation can be considered as a written document). 5. Faculty interested to offer a full semester 'Independent Study' for 5th year BS-MS students/Research Scholars , must submit the following to the Syllabus Coordinator and Chair before the courses go online each semester: a) Title, and b) Syllabus (short, 5-6 lines,). |
