Preamble
This is an advanced course on electrodynamics. This focuses on advanced applications of Maxwell's equations, especially to the field of optics. It also focuses on the wave nature of light, especially with a view towards a theory of interference, diffraction and coherence. In addition, it introduces students to the field of non-linear optics.

Syllabus
The vector nature of electromagnetic radiation - Polarimetry formalisms.

Propagation of electromagnetic waves in (a) conducting media (b) anisotropic media and (c) inhomogeneous media.

Non-linear effects in wave propagation in dispersive media.

Propagation of finite beams and wave packets: Diffraction Wave guides and resonant cavities.

Scattering from inhomogeneous media. First order Born approximation.

Scattering by small particles modes of spheres, spheroids, ellipsoids.

Plasmonics and metamaterials.

Intermediate electrodynamics
