Syllabus
Rationale: Paleontology is the study of past life forms. This laboratory course goes hand in hand with the Paleontology theory course (ES3203). In this laboratory course students gain hands on experience of evaluating important invertebrate groups which contribute heavily to the fossil record. We also briefly cover other important topics such as paleobotany, vertebrate paleontology and Biostratigraphy.


Major Invertebrate groups: Fossil preservation, Microfossils, Sponges, Cnidaria, Bryozoa and Brachiopoda, Molluscs (Bivalvia, Gastropoda, Cephalopoda), Echinodermata


Applied paleontology: Biostratigraphy, Paleoecology, Growth form
