Syllabus
Electrical Circuits & Electronics 4 credits

Calculation of voltages and currents using mesh current method and node voltage method. 1-port equivalent circuiys : Thevenins and Nortons theorem.2-port equivalent circuits : Z-parameters, Y-parameters and h-parameters. AC circuit analysis using complex impedences. Series and parallel LCR circuits. AC bridges (8)

Brief discussion about the characteristics of diodes and transistors. (4)
The CE amplifier bias stability and frequency response. (4)

Operational amplifiers (internal circuitry not needed). The idea of negative feedback and virtual ground. Applications such as comparator , Schmidt trigger, inverting and non-inverting amplifier, adder, differential amplifier, differentiator, integrator, active filters, clipper, clampers. (6)

Basic oscillator theory : positive feedback and Birkhousen criterion. Wien bridge and Colpitts oscillators, Schmidt trigger based multivibrator. (3)


Basic digital electronics. Optimization of Boolean expressions using Karnaugh maps. Realization of Boolean functions using NAND or NOR gates only. (4)

Important sequential citcuits : Multiplexer/ Demultiplexer, Half adder, Full adder and digital comparator. (4)

NAND latch, RS, D, JK and JKMS flip flops. (4)

Registers and Counters. (3)

Basic ideas of ADC and DAC. (2)
