Syllabus
Experiments:
1. Study of Geiger-Muller Counter and counting statistics by Gamma ray source.
2. Study of Geiger-Muller Counter and counting statistics by Beta particle source.
3. Study of Gamma absorption in matter by Gamma ray source.
4. Study of Gamma ray energy spectrum using a scintillation counter with Single Channel Analyzer (SCA).
5. Analysis of gamma energy spectra with Multichannel analyzer (MCA).
6. Study of angular distribution of cross section for Rutherford scattering of Alpha particles from Au foil.
7. Absorption of alphaparticles in air & determination of energy and counting rates for Ra
series.
8. Muon Lifetime determination.

The following theory will also be covered:
Basics of nuclear physics: mass formula, shell model, shell effect, alpha decay, beta decay.
