Preamble
This course is meant for Biologists with little introduction to Mathematics. Each section will be taught and numerous examples directly relevant to biological data will be worked out.

Syllabus


  • Introduction: Scientific Notation, Powers, Units and Conversions, Dimensional Analysis, Amounts, Dilution, Concentrations

  • Understanding equations: Plotting simple equations, manipulating equations, extracting information

  • Logarithms; Exponential equations; Parameter extraction

  • Basics of differential equations with biological applications

  • Probability and statistics; Distributions; Central Limit Theorem

  • Data organization, plotting and handling; curve fitting

  • Introduction to computational biology: Basics of sequence and structure analysis; Basics of molecular simulations in biology
