Syllabus
Human impacts on surface processes, atmospheric stability and its implications for stack emissions, Biochemical and Chemical Oxygen Demand, modeling the fate and transport of pollutants in the environment (Advection, Diffusion, Sorption, Biodegradation), Streeter-Phelps Equation for modelling dissolved oxygen in rivers, pollutants in lakes and stratification, pH calculation of rainwater, sources and reactivity of compounds in natural and polluted environment, the chemistry of natural waters - Oxidation-Reduction in aquatic chemistry, pollution and purification of water - toxic heavy metals, pesticides, plastics, other toxic organic compounds of environmental concern, waste management, soil and sediment pollution, radioactivity, nuclear energy.
