Syllabus


  • Safety protocol and quantitative methods in biology;

  • Diversity in natural populations at Macro (Alpha diversity in birds/plants);

  • Flight initiation distance to study fight or flight, using birds;

  • Basic Cell Biology: Microscopic observation of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells (bacteria, plant cells (onion peel), cheek epithelial cells); Plasmolysis and deplasmolysis of onion cells;

  • Microbiology: Isolation of single colony and Gram staining;

  • Spectrophotometric estimation of DNAand DNA gel Electrophoresis;

  • Natural variation in form and function;

  • Introduction to prey-predator behaviour and communication (Understanding behaviour and behavioural adaptations to escape predation, communication signals and variation. Students will perform simulated experiments relating to behavioural adaptations and selection)
