1. Phenomenological kinetics: Simple and complex systems including opposing, concurrent and consecutive reactions
2. Rate law and mechanism, relation with thermodynamics 3. Precision in rate measurement, data analysis 4. Special experimental methods including flash photolysis, shock tube, molecular beam and relaxation techniques 5. Oscillatory reactions 6. Theories of reaction rates: bimolecular reactions, rate coefficient, activation energy, potential energy surfaces, trajectory methods and transition state theory. Qunatum mechanical effects. Introduction to RRK and RRKM theories. 7. Applications: photochemistry, solution kinetics, homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis and enzyme kinetics 8. Microscopic to Macroscopic: Relation between rate constant and reaction cross-section. |
