This course focuses on subsurface flow and transport, emphasizing on the role of groundwater in the hydrologic cycle, the relation of groundwater flow in geologic structure, hydrochemistry, and the management of contaminated groundwater. Geomorphology part of this course deals with the study of earth surface processes and evolution of landforms. |

Physical properties of common rock forming minerals in hand specimen Identification of common rock forming minerals under microscope Petrology: Identification of rock types and their structures/textures in hand specimen Identification of common rocks under microscope Introduction to Rock Deformation Studies: Structural Attitude Measurements; Introduction to Deformation structures Geophysics: Numerical calculation of epicentral distance, azimuth and back azimuth for a spherical earth. Numerical calculation of plate motions and triple junction stability. Numerical calculation of crustal thickness for India, Himalaya and Tibet using different isostatic models. Seismogram analysis and processing using SAC (Seismic Analysis Code), Crustal thickness and Vp/Vs ratio estimation from local and teleseismic earthquake data, Estimation of seismological and thermal Lithosphere Asthenosphere Boundary (LAB). |
