| Natural variations in the Earth System
Natural variability in the Earths temperature and atmospheric greenhouse gases, the Earths greenhouse effect and the atmospheric energy balance, the global carbon cycle and its anthropogenic perturbation, Modeling Impacts of Anthropogenic greenhouse gas Emissions Climate sensitivity of the atmosphere, radiative forcing in the industrial time, global warming potential of the greenhouse gases, the efficiency and carbon intensity of the three types of fossil fuels, designing engineering systems to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Future Emission Scenarios Modeling future anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases with economic models and emission scenarios. Modelling of the climate system: Introduction to a climate model- Types of models; General overview on- Energy balance models, Intermediate complexity models, General circulation models, Components of a climate model, Testing the validity of models. Climate Vulnerability and Risk Analysis Climate Vulnerability: Concept of vulnerability and risk in terms of climate change scenarios, Evolution of the definition/concept of vulnerability and risk. Hazard Component of Risk Analysis: Natural disasters- precipitation extremes, droughts, heatwaves, and cyclones; Extreme Value Analysis. Role of the early warning system of hazards in risk analysis. Qualitative and Quantitative Risk Analysis: The key concepts of qualitative and quantitative natural disaster risk analyses highlight the risks across various sectors, encompassing both social and socio-economic dimensions. |
