IISER Kolkata Outreach activity aims and works diligently to connect the Institute with its neighborhood, so as to share our expertise with weaker sections of the Society.

Through 'Ek-Pehal',our students systematically impart after-class learning experience to students of diverse background from the neighboring villages. Derived mostly from poor families, these evening and weekend academic help has gone a long way in improving the educational background of the students. It has exposed them to the academic environment of an Institute of National Importance. The increasing number of students finding enrollment in our Institute bears testimony to the success of this effort.

IISER-K conducts computer and experimental demonstrations on 'Science Day' at its premises and science camps in schools to arouse curiosity of the young minds. It hosts students from North-East states and participates in Government sponsored program 'Swachh Bharat' to spread message of cleanliness and hygiene. Through 'Unnat Bharat Abhiyan' and 'Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan” we reach out to schools at district level.

Faculty, staff and students regularly reach out to members of other National and International Institutions, during their visits, research collaboration and project works. All this has seen an increasing footfall of reputed scientists and researchers in our serene campus at Mohanpur. The GIAN program of Ministry of Education has further accelerated this process. We have also joined our effort with other neighboring Institutes to facilitate the visits of Internationally acclaimed academicians to Kolkata, thereby giving exposure to a much bigger body of students and researchers from this area to global excellence. This has been done through joint programs and often with the help of bodies like British Council, IUSSTF etc.

IISER-K has entered into Memorandum of Understanding with large number of Institutes and Universities of India and abroad for student exchange and research collaboration.

"We hope to enlarge the Outreach activity further to neighboring countries Nepal, Bangladesh and Sr-Lanka, for academic and research collaboration. We also intend to strengthen our bond with reputed Universities to propel our self to the top echelons in the world."

Outreach Team

We are committed to outreach work with local schools, colleges and community groups, aiming to raise aspirations and encourage people from a variety of backgrounds to consider progression to education in science and research. Participants are exposed to the aim and opportunities in research and science education through various programmes of stimulating activities delivered both on and off campus. Administered and planned by the Outreach team in close collaboration with nearby schools, we have been working regionally and nationally to become one of the most effective and established widening participation programmes in the sector.
