A moderate (Mw 5.9) earthquake occured in the northern Bay of Bengal. The epicenter of the earthquake is ~500 km south of the IISER Kolkata Seismological Observatory (MOHN). The 3-component broadband velocity record from the observatory is plotted below. The Origin time and location is taken from NEIC. The source parametrers (M0 and Mw) have been computed from the S-wave spectra and is given in the plot below. The event is associated with a large stress drop (> 100 bars) observed in intra-plate events.
