28 August 2018 West Bengal Earthquake


A light (Mw 4.4) earthquake occured in southern West Bengal. The epicenter of the earthquake is ~80 km west of the IISER Kolkata Seismological Observatory (MOHN). The 3-component broadband velocity record from the observatory is plotted below. The Origin time and location is taken from IMD. The source parametrers (M0 and Mw) have been computed from the S-wave spectra and is given in the plot below. The event is associated with a moderate stress drop (19 bars).
