Northern Sumatra Earthquakes 11 April 2012


A sequence of earthquakes occured off the west coast of Northern Sumatra. Two large events of Magnitude (Mw) 8.4 and 8.1 (calculated from IISERK Seismological Observatory data) occurred on 11th April 2012, which was felt strongly across south, central and eastern India. The ground velocity record of these two events and their P-wave displacement spectra corrected for attenuation are plotted below.
