The Department of Chemical Sciences (DCS), IISER Kolkata receives a financial support of INR 59 Millions from the Department of Science and Technology - Fund for Improvement of S&T Infrastructure (DST-FIST ) for augmentation of research facilities of DCS in the form of high resolution transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM).

Dr. Siddhartha Pathak from Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA visits AFML and delivers an interesting lecture on "Mechanical Behaviour of Carbon Nanotubes: From a Single Tube towards Complex Networks".

Dr. Anupam Singha Roy joins AFML as Institute Postdoctoral Fellow. The position is funded by IISER Kolkata. Dr. Roy obtained his Ph. D. degree from Department of Chemistry, University of Kalyani in 2013.

Dr. Shweta Tripathi joins AFML to continue research in the DST-SERB FAST Track Young Scientist project.

Anustup Sadhu receives one of the two Best Oral Presentation Awards for his work on Enhanced Low Field Magnetoresistance in La0.71Sr0.29MnO3 Nanoparticles Synthesized by Non-aqueous Sol-gel Route , at the Departmental Day of the Department of Chemical Sciences, IISER Kolkata.

Arghya Bandyopadhyay joins AFML as Research Associate. The position is funded by CSIR [No. 01(2689)/12/EMR-II]. Arghya pursued his Ph.D. from Department of Microbiology, University of Kalyani and is expected to receive his Ph.D. degree in 2014.

The AFML team congratulates Dr. Subhasis Roy on being offered a position as Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Calcutta. Dr. Roy is pleased to accept the offer. The University of Calcutta was established in 1857 and is a pioneering public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal. The prestigious Department of Chemical Engineering was established in 1982 and offers three year B.Tech. and two year M.Tech. courses.

Dr. Subhasis Roy joins AFML as Research Associate. The position is funded by DST SERB [SR/S1/PC-28/2011]. Dr. Roy obtained his Ph. D. degree from IIT Kharagpur in 2012 and completed one year postdoctoral research from Sungkyunkwan University, South Korea.

Vishwas Srivastava successfully defends his Master's thesis entitled "Immobilizing Pristine and Mn-doped CdSe Quantum Dots on Carbon Nanowhiskers for Solar Energy Conversion".

Dr. Shiv Prakash Singh joins AFML as Research Associate. The position is funded by CSIR [No. 01(2689)/12/EMR-II]. Dr. Singh obtained his Ph. D. degree from CGCRI, Kolkata in 2012.

Dr. Bhattacharyya signs the consultancy agreement with Hindustan Unilever Limited.

Dr. Bhattacharyya attends Young Scientists’ Colloquium - 2011 from Materials Research Society of India (MRSI), Kolkata Chapter at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata. Previously Dr. Bhattacharyya was nominated as a member of the organizing committee of this event.

The Materials Science Centre at the Main campus of IISER Kolkata is inaugurated by Professor Ajay K. Sood from Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in presence of the honorable Director of IISER Kolkata, Professor Sushanta Dattagupta.
