Bio-Vantages: 2026

Frontiers in Bioanalytical Instrumentation and Methodology

Specialized Bioanalytical Modules during BAW-2026 form December 14th to December 17th at IISER Kolkata , Mohanpur Campus.

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the BAW(Bio-Vantages: 2026) Conference on biological systems become increasingly complex, the need for high-resolution analytical techniques is paramount. We propose to host a series of intensive, theoritical modules at IISER Kolkata during the December 2026 Bioanalytical Workshop (BAW) cycle. This program aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in state-of-the-art bioanalytical platforms.

We have curated five specialized modules that represent the "Bench-to-Bioinformatics" workflow, ensuring participants gain expertise in both data acquisition and interpretation.

Module and Primary Focus

Module I: CellView & Imaging Flow Cytometry

• Concept: Merging the speed of flow cytometry with the morphological detail of microscopy.
• Key Training: Fundamentals of fluidics and optics; high-speed image acquisition; and the use of fluorescence to isolate rare cell populations based on spatial characteristics.

Module II: Mimicking Tissue Microenvironment in Regenerative Medicine and Cancer

• Concept: Bridging engineering and biology to recreate physiological environments.
• Key Training: Physics of bio-printing and imprinting; selection of biocompatible polymers; and principles of scaffold-guided cell growth for regenerative therapies.

Module III: Spatial Multiomics & MALDI Tissue Imaging

• Concept: Moving beyond "bulk" analysis to understand where molecules are located in a tissue slice.
• Key Training: Sample preparation for Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization (MALDI); mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) workflows; and the application of spatial transcriptomics in biomedical research.

Module IV: Bioinformatics Pipelines for Multiomics

• Concept: Handling the massive data output from high-throughput platforms.
• Key Training: Introduction to Linux/R-based pipelines; quality control (QC) of sequencing data; and integrated analysis of "Omics" layers (Genomics + Proteomics + Metabolomics).

Module V: Statistical Analysis of High-Throughput Data

• Concept: Turning raw data into statistically significant biological insights.
• Key Training: Normalization techniques; handling batch effects; dimensionality reduction (PCA/t-SNE/UMAP); and determining false discovery rates (FDR) in large datasets.

Strategic Justification for IISER Kolkata

Hosting these specific modules at IISER Kolkata is advantageous because:

Interdisciplinary Nature:

These modules require the intersection of Physics (Module I & II), Chemistry (Module III), and Computational Biology (Module IV & V), which aligns with the IISER ethos.

Industry Relevance:

Technologies like BD CellView™ and Spatial Multiomics are currently the most sought-after skills in global biotech R&D.

Data-Driven Science:

By including Bioinformatics and Statistics, we ensure that the workshop isn't just about "running a machine," but about producing high-quality, publishable science.

We look forward to an engaging, inspiring, and culturally enriching gathering in IISER Kolkata..
