List of experiments for the year 2011

1. Measurement of resistivity by using 4-probe technique

Aim: (a) To measure resistivity of a thin (0.5 mm) sample of Germanium as a function of temperature by using 4-probe technique, and (b) To estimate the bangap energy of Germanium from this measurment.

2. Study of Hall effect

Aim: (a) To measure Hall voltage for a thin (0.5 mm) sample of p-doped (or n-doped) Germanium as a function of magnetic field for 3 different sample current, and (b) to dtermine the type of doping (i.e. n or p) from this measurment.

3. Measurement of magnetoresistance

Aim: To measure magnetoresistance of a thin (0.5 mm) sample of p-doped (or n-doped) Germanium as a function of magnetic field for 3 different sample current.

4. Measurement of magnetic susceptibility

Aim: To measure magnetic susceptibility of a solution of a paramagnetic salt in water for 3 different concentrations by using Quincke's method.

5. Study of thermoluminescence of color center

Aim: (a) To create color center in an alkaly halaid crystal by X-ray irradiation, (b) study thermoluminescence of the color centers as a function of temperature.

6. Study of magnetic hysteresis

Aim: To plot magnetic hysteresis loop of a feromanetic rod.

7. Measurement of dielectric constant

Aim: To measure dielectric constant of a ferroelectric material as a function of temperature and to observe ferroelectric to paraelectric transition.

8. Study of Raman effect

Aim: To study Raman effect in carbon tetrachloride.
