1.Anti-Ragging:
Ragging in any form is completely banned in the institute. Strict disciplinary action will be taken against students involved in any form of ragging, hazing, or abuse of power, whether physical, verbal, or sexual. Any student accused of ragging will be investigated and, if found guilty, face repercussions up to expulsion.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a revised advisory on anti-ragging among students.
2. What Constitutes Ragging?
Ragging constitutes one or more of the following acts:
- Any conduct by any student or students, whether by words spoken or written, or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.
- Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students, which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm, or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.
- Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student.
- Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts, or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher.
- Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.
- Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students.
- Any act of physical abuse, including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm, or any other danger to health or person.
- Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, posts, public insults, which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture of fresher or any other student.
- Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student, with or without the intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or show off power, authority, or superiority by a student over any fresher.
3. Reporting of Ragging Incidents or Apprehension thereof:
Freshers are requested to report any ragging-related matter to the Hostel Warden, any faculty or staff member, or any member of the Anti-Ragging Committee or Squads. Any fresher student who went through or is apprehensive of an impending ragging incident shall promptly report it to any member of the Anti-Ragging Squad or the Anti-Ragging Committee, or to the Staff Advisor, or any faculty member or staff by any means, such as in person, by phone call, by e-mail, by written note, etc. The written complaints may also be dropped in the drop boxes kept prominently for this purpose at various locations in the academic buildings and hostels. The complaints can even be anonymous.
4. Punishment for Ragging:
(a) By the Institute:
Cancellation of admission, suspension, rustication or expulsion from the Institute/ Hostel.
Filing FIR with the police.
Collective punishment may be imposed where the persons involved are not identified.
(b) By the Law & Order Agencies:
Over and above the Institute-level action, there will be strong police and legal action. Ragging is a cognizable offence under the law of the land, and the Supreme Court has ruled that the punishment to be meted out has to be exemplary and justifiably harsh to act as a deterrent. According to relevant sections of the The Indian Penal Code (IPC), those found guilty of a ragging related offence can be punished with imprisonment or fine or both. The quantum of punishment varies with the gravity of the crime.
5. Mandatory Undertaking by ALL students:
Students MUST fill in the online undertaking against anti-ragging at anti-ragging website.
After filling the form, students should note down the reference number and download the undertaking from here.
Submit the reference number and signed (student and parent) form in the ASC portal to complete the registration process each year.

6. All employees (teaching and non-teaching, outsourced service staff, maintenance staff and cleaning staff, etc.) must report any case of ragging/misbehavior that comes to his/her notice:
It is imperative that all employees of the Institute, including teaching and non-teaching staff, outsourced service personnel, watch and ward staff, maintenance staff, and housekeeping staff, promptly report any incident of ragging or misconduct that comes to their notice to any of the following authorities: the Deans, the Registrar, the Heads of Departments, the Wardens, or any other available authority or faculty member.
7. Do's and Don'ts for Fresher Students:
- If you face academic, personal, financial, or mental health challenges, promptly approach your Faculty Advisor, Office of Students' Affairs, Counsellor, or Mentor.
- Load your cell phone with all important contact numbers of the Institute / hostels / your parents.
- Adhere to all academic, hostel, examination, safety, and disciplinary regulations issued by the Institute.
- Participate in clubs, sports, cultural events, outreach activities, and student organizations to develop your skills and build meaningful friendships.
- Treat fellow students, faculty, staff, and support personnel with courtesy, dignity, and respect.
- Be punctual, maintain good attendance, and participate actively in lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions.
- First-year students are expected to be in their hostel after dinner.
8. Instructions to Parents:
- Students are expected to attend classes regularly and actively participate in academic activities.
- Encourage your ward to maintain discipline, sincerity, and regular communication with their faculty members and academic advisors.
- Students residing in hostels must strictly follow the hostel rules and regulations.
- Encourage your ward to seek help early whenever they experience academic, emotional, or personal difficulties.
- Parents are advised to encourage their ward to check their official email regularly.
- The Institute follows a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging.
- Students must not engage in or support any form of ragging.
- Parents are requested to advise their ward to immediately report any incident of ragging to the Institute authorities.
