Hiring of Contractual Staff for New Animal Facility

 

Position : Small Animal House Facility Scientist In-charge

No. of Vacancy: 1 (One)

Duration: Three Year

Tenure of the post: Initially for three years but likely to be extendable subject to the candidate's performance.

Place of Posting: IISER Kolkata Mohanpur

Salary: Consolidated Rs. 80,000 (per month)

Age: Below 35 years, but age can be relaxed if appropriate expertise to work. Age relaxation will be given as per GOI norms.

Essential Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Life Sciences / Biology or associated field with minimum 55% marks in MSc or equivalent degree and at least two/three first-author publications in the peer-reviewed international journal where the candidate used experimental small animals.

Desirable Qualification

  1. Candidates must have thorough training in animal handling animal breeding.
  2. The candidate should have the experience to work with BSL-2 pathogens in Animal BSL-2facilities.
  3. They must have the leadership quality to coordinate with faculty, students, and other users and lead the team for the animal experiments.
  4. They must have the administrative ability to coordinate the day-to-day administration at thefacility.
  5. Good communication skills, energetic and will be expected to engage in interdisciplinaryand collaborative research work.
  6. Pro-efficient in logical thinking and independent execution of the entire facility functioning.
  7. Candidate preferably should know about IV injection, IP injection, blood collectionfrom a small animal.
  8. Preferably candidates should know animal dissection, tissue harvesting,processing, sectioning, staining, and microscopy.
  9. Knowledge about genotyping for the identification and authentication of animal stains is essential.
  10. Knowledge of animal house sterility and bacterial floor testing system is preferred.
  11. Knowledge in setting up BSL-3

Job description: 

  • All the jobs related to the establishment of the facility concerned and the coordination of the day-to-day administration at the facility.
  • Candidates must be involved in animal experimentation and animal breeding and training students and staff members.
  • Supervising experiments and leading the team for the animal experiments in BSL-2 pathogens in Animal BSL-2 facilities in coordination with faculty, students, and other users.
  • Helping faculties, staff members, and students in IV, IP, ICinjection, blood collection,and guiding students for sample preparation.
  • Help in experimentation by animal dissection, tissue harvesting, processing, sectioning, staining, and microscopy.
  • Training staff members for genotyping.
  • Coordinating with Veterinarians to maintain the health of the small animal.
  • Administering and maintaining the stock of small animal bedding and food
  • Facilitating arranging IAEC meetings helping faculties write animal protocols, and liaising with CPCSEA.

Position: Veterinarian

No. of Vacancy: 1 (One)

Duration: Three Year

Place of Posting: IISER Kolkata Mohanpur

Salary: Consolidated Rs. 45,000 to 60,000 (per month) as per the experience

Age: Below 35 years, but age can be relaxed if appropriate expertise to work. Age relaxation will be given as per GOI norms.

Essential qualification:

  1. Bachelor degree in Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (BVSc &AH) as listed in the 1st & 2nd Schedule of the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984
  2. Registered with the Veterinary Council of India/ Veterinary Council of States.
  3. Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) in Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Microbiology or Veterinary Pathology or Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology.
  4. Ph.D. candidates in relevant subjects will be preferred.
  5. Age: Below 35 but can be relaxed based on the experience

 

Desirable qualification:

  1. Practical experience in animal handling techniques, scientific breeding, maintenance, and care of laboratory animals.
  2. Experienced in minor animal health monitoring procedures and related documentation
  3. Knowledge of CPCSEA regulations / CPCSEA registration and approval procedures and functionalities of IAEC
  4. Good communication skills should be a high-energy individual, organized and self-driven.

Job description:

  • Animal house veterinarians should ensure that the clinical and preventive health programs be implemented effectively in the Animal House Facility.
  • Provide orientation to new students/animal users per CPCSEA guidelines and SOPs of Animal Facility.
  • Train the new students/animal users/animal caretakers/support staff to humane laboratory animals properly.
  • Oversee animal husbandry programs assist users in animal-related procedures like breeding, sample collection, excision of tumors, injections, animal identification methods, euthanasia, etc.
  • Should assist Facility in-Charge in importing and exporting live laboratory animals, quarterly animal health monitoring programs as per CPCSEA guidelines (GOI).
  • Should be available for emergency veterinary care after work hours, on weekends, and Holidays.
  • IAEC meeting coordination and liaison with CPCSEA.
